Puff embroidery

...is where things start to get interesting. Puff uses a thick, foam-like material that is then stitched over, resulting in designs that pop off the garment and create a 3D effect.

The Process

To fully understand the results of embroidery, it is important that we educate you on the process of taking a digital graphic, converting it to a stitch path, and creating apparel. While there are many variables and procedures for embroidery, we have listed the key specifics in a few simple steps.

Art

Our in-house apparel graphic designers will review your design and prepare it for digitizing and embroidery.

Digitizing

Once the design is mocked up on the correct garments and approved by the client, our digitizing and productions teams create a digitized file – translating a digital graphic into stitches and stitch paths.

Stitch-Out

Now that we have a digitized file, our production team will do a sample stitch out, ensure the file is accurate to the proof, and send you a photo for approval.

Decoration

After you have approved the sample stitch out, we begin embroidering each garment on the order according to our production proofs and digitized file.

Embroidery FAQs

Does Ben Engle Design & Print require a minimum number of units per order?

Yes, depending on the type of decoration, minimum quantities do apply.Embroidery – 6 units (items may be mixed and matched across a variety of styles and colors)

What file types can I send my design to you in?

AI, EPS and SVG (any vector) work. If you can send in a vector art file we can easily manipulate it if adjustments based on threading need to be made.

Can you fold/bag and tag

Yes we can for an additional fee.

What are the benefits of embroidery:

Permanent Placement: Will not be worn away from repeated wear and tear or washing.
Incredibly Durable: The thread used for embroidery is malleable and flexible, allowing the material to bend to fit any part of the body and move along with it.
Tight Stitches: The tightness of each stitch makes it resistant to damage and much less likely to break down over time.

How do I design for embroidery?

Simplify. Embroidery can’t recreate small details of screen printing.
• Avoid small text, thin line work, and intricate shapes.
• Avoid text or shape cutouts,

What can you embroider on?

Here are some items that do not handle embroidery well:
• Thick puffy fabric: The thread pulls itself tight against the backing, so an extra thick fabric is going to bunch up, pucker, and warp.
• Non-flat items that aren’t hats: We have special machinery to stitch on hats, but otherwise the item must be able to lay flat to go through the machine.
• Thin, see-through, stretchy, or ribbed garments: There are a couple of issues here. First, thin or stretchy fabric will tend to move a lot as it’s stitched, causing warping, misalignment, and poor details. Second, we use a fabric backing to help give the embroidery strength and security, and a thin (especially white) shirt will show the backing through the fabric, which can look like a rough white outline of the design.

What thread colors do you have?

Choose from our wide variety of ISACORD threads With over 400 to choose from.. We will match your design to the closest thread color.

Do you do puff/3D embroidery?

Yes we do! This adds a layer of foam between the hat and the thread for a raised look that takes your hats to the next level. It is an extra fee, and there are a few restrictions:
• No small text: The best candidates for puff are large block letters. Feel free to ask us if your design is a good candidate.
